The Victorian Association for the Teaching of English is a professional body established to promote the interests of English education and to allow English educators in Victoria to exchange ideas.

VATE brings together teachers in government, Catholic and independent schools, as well as tertiary educators and pre-service teachers.

VATE’s Community of Practice: Teaching reading

VATE has secured funding to support a year-long professional learning program which aims to deepen English teachers’ understandings of reading processes through action research in the classroom. VATE can support five teacher teams from across Victoria to explore reading in their schools.

50 Word Fiction - Winners announced

AATE 50 years. 1964-2014Judging has now concluded for the AATE 50 Word Fiction Competition to celebrate AATE's 50th Anniversary in 2014.

The competition was open to students in years 7-12, and to all ETA members.  

Almost 900 entries were received from across Australia.  And the winners!
