VCE English Language: Australian Accents and Identity (Student lectures)
These sessions are suitable for students undertaking years 11 and 12 English Language. Using clips featuring different Australian voices (including Standard, Broad, migrant and Indigenous) we will discuss the language features of each variety and the ways in which they are used in media texts to signal different identities. We will also explore changing attitudes towards varieties of Australian English by considering their use in media texts from the 1920s to the present day. Teachers will receive support materials for use in the classroom.
