Q. What are Student Lectures?
A. VCE Student Lectures are structured in the following way:
February: VCE Student Orientation Day for Unit 3 - English, English Language and Literature
September/October: VCE Student Revision Days – English, English as a Second Language, English Language and Literature.
In February, the Orientation Day will focus on an introduction to all Areas of Study and Outcomes for Unit 3. The Student Revision Days in September/October are an opportunity to revise the year, with practical guidelines for using their study leave and effective strategies for approaching the exam. Sessions are presented by qualified, dedicated and expert teachers; they are well organised and extremely popular. Sessions are either in seminar (30 students or less) or lecture (between 50-400 students) form. Both will cover the same kind of material and topics.
Lectures are for students ONLY. Parents and teachers are not permitted to attend unless by prior arrangement.
Q. When are lectures held in 2010?
A. VCE Student Orientation Days: Unit 3 English, English Language and Literature - Saturday 27 February.
VCE Student Revision Day programs
Metro - English and ESL: Saturday 9 October
Metro - Literature and English Language Sunday 10 October
Regional days:
Mildura – Monday 20 September 2009
Sale – Monday 20 September 2009
Ballarat – Friday 1 October 2009
Q. Where are they held?
A. The metropolitan days are held at Monash University, Caulfield.
The Ballarat SRD is held at Ballarat Grammar School.
The Sale SRD will be held at Gippsland Grammar School.
The Mildura SRD will be held at St. Joseph’s College.
Q. What is the cost for the day?
A. If you register online through the VATE website, the current cost of the day is $48.00. If you fax/post your registration form, the cost of the day is $68.00. Theses prices are subject to change.
Q. How do I register?
A. There are two options for booking: online through the VATE website or through the office by fax/post. The preferred (and cheaper) option is through the VATE website. You must ensure that you register before the closing date (check flyers for closing dates).
Q. How do I pay for my registration?
A. If your school pays to register your class, they can use a school order number (ask your teacher about this). Other options are: Visa; Mastercard; Bankcard; Cheque.
Q. How do I know that I’m registered?
A. If you register online, you will receive an automatic invoice after you press the submit button. You will also receive a confirmation email to your nominated email address. If you do not receive either of these, you may not be registered. You will need to contact the VATE office.
If you fax/post your registration form, you will receive a confirmation email. Please allow five working days for the office to process your registration.
Q. Can I register on the day?
A. No, you are not able to register on the day.
Q. What if I don’t receive my ticket by email?
A. If your school registers you, all tickets will be emailed to the appropriate teacher. If you registered yourself, you may have submitted an incorrect email or your registration may not have been successful. Contact the VATE office.
Q. How do I find the venue?
A. A map of the venue will be available to download from the VATE website. For regional venues, Melways and Google map references will be available from the VATE website.
Q. Do I have to sign in at the registration table?
A. NO. However, you must ensure that you bring your Entry Ticket on the day. If you do not bring this ticket, then you need to go to the registration desk to collect another ticket. This is a time consuming task, so it’s important that you bring the Entry Ticket that is emailed to you.
Q. What should I bring on the day?
A. You should bring something to write on and some pens. If you are going to text specific sessions, you should bring those texts. You should also bring your lunch, as lunch is not provided. You are NOT able to record sessions.
Q. Will I be given handouts?
A. Yes. The handouts may include; the PowerPoint the presenter used; sample essays; key quotes; revision exercises, etc.
Q. Are students with special needs provided for?
A. Yes. Please contact the VATE office.
