2019 VATE Regional Roadshow - Echuca (May 22nd)

VATE is proud to offer its inaugural Regional Roadshow in 2019. To support our members around Victoria with quality professional learning, we are sending experienced VCE English teachers and assessors to regional hubs to outline the comparative analysis task and argument and language analysis task.

Session 1 (1pm - 2:30pm)

Now that the teaching of paired texts in a comparative manner has been firmly established under the latest iteration of the Study Design, this session will explore the essence of what is really sought through the comparative analysis of set VCAA paired texts. It will examine what distinguishes such comparative essay writing from that on single texts. We will overtly explore what distinguishes a high, medium and low as designated in the exam expected qualities. Detailed consideration of both the 2017 and 2018 VCAA Section B topics will occur. We will explicitly explore specific approaches to teaching and learning which will readily facilitate optimal student writing.

Session 2 (3pm - 4:30pm)

Two years after the Study Design and exam shift in emphasis to argument and language analysis, we take the opportunity to re-examine how argument is constructed, how language is used to complement and enrich the argument, and explore strategies for writing an effective analysis in the final examination. Using the 2017 and 2018 Section C tasks, we will look at the various approaches students are adopting, especially those that result in good analytical responses.



Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be received at the VATE office in writing.

Cancellations received between 5 and 3 working days prior to the event date will be charged a 15% cancellation fee. Cancellations received less than 2 working days prior to the event will receive NO REFUND. If you do not attend and have not notified the office in writing according to the above policy, you will receive no refund.
