(human) Being is a new VATE anthology amplifying LGBTQIA+ voices through creative writing. (human) Being brings together original writing from secondary students and teachers, alongside commissioned pieces from established authors and fact-based infographics from advocacy organisations.

Launching in Term 3, the anthology will be designed as both a literary project and a classroom resource: one that celebrates queer storytelling, affirms identity, and supports inclusive practice in schools.

The 2026 VATE x ACMI Middle Years Conference: Moving The Furniture explores how physical, instructional and intellectual spaces shape English learning in the middle years. It celebrates negotiating the curriculum to make room for student voice, advocates for teacher autonomy and centres the pedagogical artistry of English subject specialists.

A selection of workshops and the opening keynote will be live streamed to make it easier to attend this event.
