VATE Prologue: A free online webinar for Pre-service teachers

We would love to welcome our VATE Pre-service teacher members to our new resource, VATE Prologue. The VATE Prologue initiative has been developed as a way to engage with, advocate for, and support emerging English Pre-service teachers.

This Free Webinar is our way of both launching VATE Prologue and opening a line of communication and support with Pre-service teachers. The name links to the idea that while a prologue in a novel might help set the tone for a piece of literature, VATE Prologue aims to help English Pre-service teachers prepare and get ready for their career as an English teacher.

Navigating the complexities of an English teaching placement, whether it's your first or last placement can be a real challenge. You might be asking questions like: How will I get to know the students? What will I be teaching? How do I work with feedback? What can I do in three-five weeks anyway?

This webinar aims to quell some of the very normal fears and anxieties that pre-service teacher face before, during, and after placements. As the first in VATE’s Pre-service and Early Career teacher series, this webinar will have an overarching focus on teaching ideas that can be drawn upon in a three-week placement.

The webinar will bring together English teachers Emily Jackson (Xavier College) and Emma Dower (Lalor Secondary College) to share their lesson planning, pedagogical approaches, and provide ideas for ways you can engage a class on a short placement teaching English in a school. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions, seek practical advice, and share concerns, worries and emotions about starting your career as a teacher via Slido prior to the event or you can ask on the spot!

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be emailed to events@vate.org.au. Cancellations received by 12pm five working days prior to the event date will be charged a 15% cancellation fee. Cancellations received after this will receive NO REFUND. Registrations can, however, be transferred to another staff member. Please email events@vate.org.au the details. If you do not attend and have not notified VATE according to the above policy, you will receive no refund.  Please note: If this event is cancelled due to COVID government or venue restrictions, you will receive a full refund.
