Literary Perspectives at NGV

NGV
Description

Friday 8 March 9.15am - 3.30pm

MORNING SESSION: LITERARY PERSPECTIVES AT NGV
In conjunction with VATE, NGV Learn is offering teachers of VCE Literature a Professional Learning Day focusing on innovative ways to approach literary perspectives. Analysing literary criticism or reading a text through a different lens can be a challenging and daunting way to begin. Using a visual approach provides students with a more accessible way to consider perspectives. Art invites the sorts of analytical and critical thinking skills that are crucial to close reading. Teachers will be given an overview of the Literary Perspectives program and will experience how Educators use the NGV collection to develop transferable skills that will help students negotiate theory for their Literature texts.

AFTERNOON SESSION: POPULAR PERSPECTIVES, POPULAR MISTAKES
Elizabeth Campbell troubleshoots the Section A exam response. Two years into the new exam task, some patterns are becoming apparent. Elizabeth presents engaging and practical ways to deepen students’ understanding and application of literary perspectives, using examples and exercises that can make your students’ writing stand out from the pack.
As both a highly awarded poet and a teacher of more than ten years’ experience, Elizabeth Campbell provides unique insights into teaching Literature. Elizabeth presents literature and poetry workshops for students and teachers, using a wide range of popular cultural and theoretical resources, with a focus on rigor through engagement. Her collections, Letters To The Tremulous Hand and Error are published by John Leonard Press.
