A Story in Miniature student writing workshop: Years 7 and 8

You will need to log in using your VATE account.

To support students to enter the A Story in Miniature writing competition, VATE is offering two interactive student writing workshops (online via Zoom) facilitated by competition judge, writer and short story enthusiast, Averil Robertson. Join Averil as she revisits some of the key components that make up an epic short story and helps students to workshop an opening sentence to kickstart their story.

The workshops are designed to build confidence, encourage authentic storytelling, and give students a glimpse into the real processes writers use when shaping new work.

Students will take part in some low stakes writing prompts and there will be some time for light mentoring where students can refine a sentence from their story draft and receive supportive feedback.

The workshop will conclude by encouraging students to consider submitting their work to the writing competition.
